With the Chlamys farreri and kelp genome-wide sequencing programs respectively completed by Prof. Bao Zhenmin and Associate Professor Liu Tao from the College of Marine Life Science of OUC, OUC’s research on marine animal genomics has reached new international heights, which has laid a solid foundation for marine animal molecular breeding, as well as the development and utilization of functional genes.

The first division of Marine and Aquatic Biology Genomics in the international biological community was initiated during the conference. Reports were presented by Chinese scientists from Sun Yat-sen University, the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) , the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, and the Third Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic

Administration on seven large and commercial marine species, among them, grouper, Pseudosciaena crocea, Penaeus Vannamei, and Takifugu flavidus. Broad attention and coverage were given by such well-known media as Xinhua Net, GMW.cn, People.com, news.ifeng.com, ScienceNet, Tencent, Sohu, and 21CN.

As a vital component and the most active domain of life science, Genomics has brought profound changes and significant developments to overall life science research.

Attended by over 400 people, this conference invited 40 world-renowned scientists from such countries as China, the United States, Canada, Germany, France, and Switzerland to discuss the latest achievements in Genomics. Prof. Bao Zhenmin, Prof. Zhang Shicui, and Dr. Chi Shan from OUC also gave presentations during the conference.
