A delegation of Ocean University of China (OUC), led by President Wu Dexing, joined leaders of six other universities from the Chinese Mainland on October 19, 2013, to attend the 60th anniversary of Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) in Keelung.

Other members of the OUC delegation included Prof. Wan Rong, head of the Human Resources Office, Mr. Li Ruiqing, deputy director of Office of President, Prof. Liu Huirong, associate dean of the School of Law and Political Science, Prof. Zou Weining, program officer of the Office for Taiwan Affairs, and Dr. Lin Xiaopei, professor of the College of Physical and Environmental Oceanography.

During their stay in Keelung, the delegation also visited the OUC students who are currently studying at NTOU.

The six other universities from China’s mainland are Shanghai Ocean University, Xiamen University, Guangdong Ocean University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Dalian Ocean University, and JiMei University.

On October 21, the OUC delegation participated in the 4th Cross-Strait University Presidential Forum on Blue Ocean Strategies at Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) in Kaohsiung.

At the opening ceremony of the forum, President Wu Dexing shared his view on blue growth and education of marine professionals.

Sponsored by NSYSU and co-sponsored by Kaohsiung Marine University and Penghu University of Science and Technology, the forum was also attended by universities in Taiwan, including Taiwan Ocean University, Taiwan University, Cheng Kung University, and Taipei College of Maritime Technology.

Aiming at promoting cross-strait exchanges in marine-related education, science and culture so as to enhance the quality of education and research, the forum attracted over a hundred participants who attended discussions and presentations in four sessions, namely marine resources and environment, marine science and technology, maritime affairs and management as well as marine culture and aesthetics.

At the forum it was tentatively determined that the 5th Cross-Strait University Presidential Forum on Blue Ocean Strategies would be hosted by OUC next year in Qingdao.
