In his welcome speech, Vice President Li Huajun said that OUC has always attached great importance to exchange programs and cooperation with universities and scientific research institutions in Germany. Since 2004, the cooperative relationship between OUC and its German counterparts, including the Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel has yielded fruitful achievements, including the successful launching of the Center for Sino-German Cooperation in Marine Sciences.

“We hope that a substantial cooperative partnership could be established with other research institutions affiliated with the Helmholtz Association,” said the vice president.

At the meeting, Prof. Jürgen Mlynek, president of the German Helmholtz Association, gave an overview of the Helmholtz Association, as well as its research orientation, funding, international cooperation, and major modes of cooperation with Chinese partners. Prof. Karin Lochte, director of the Alfred-Wegener-Institute (AWI), also gave a detailed introduction to the latest research achievements made at AWI, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Center for Materials and Coastal Research (HZG), the Helmholtz Center of Potsdam, and the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Key Laboratory of Physical Oceanography, the Key Laboratory of Marine Chemistry Theory and Technology, the Key Laboratory of Marine Environment & Ecology, and the International Office.
