After expressing his welcome to the visiting delegation led by Prof. Timothy Holst, associate vice chancellor of academic affairs of UMD, Vice President Li thanked UMD for their care and support provided to the OUC students currently studying at the host university in the U.S. He said the joint educational program between OUC and UMD launched in 2011 has proved to be successful. “It is time for us to consider further expansion in our collaboration,” he added.

Prof. Timothy Holst said 12 OUC undergraduate students are currently studying at UMD, and three of them have received scholarship for their excellent academic performance. As the two universities share  many commonalities and have accumulated successful experience in running student exchange and joint education programs, there is a huge potential for more cooperative activities, he said.

The UMD guests were very much impressed by the Sino-German Initiative in Marine Sciences, a marine-related Master program, saying they wish to have the same joint program in cooperation with OUC.

At the meeting, the two sides talked about issues concerning joint educational programs for undergraduate students, credit transfer and further educational collaboration.

Both sides agreed to expand collaboration in research and education, from undergraduate level up to Master and Ph.D. level.
