Comoros Ambassador Visits OUC

    President Wu Dexing of Ocean University of China (OUC) met with Mr. Mohamed, ambassador of the Union of the Comoros to China, on May 23, 2013, at Laoshan Campus. Both of them talked about possibilities of collaboration, particularly in areas related to education and research in marine science and technology.【Click here to see the Chinese version
   

    President Wu extended his warm welcome to Ambassador Mohamed. He said the ocean plays a significant role in promoting the social and economic development of the Union of the Comoros. “We welcome students from Comoros to study here at Ocean University of China and I can see we have a big potential to establish joint programs for education and research,” said President Wu, adding that OUC would like to assist Comoros students in applying for the CSC scholarship to help them study in China.
   

    Ambassador Mohamed gave an overview of his country. He said the Union of the Comoros is a sovereign archipelago island nation with a total area of 2,336 km2 in the Indian Ocean. The Union of the Comoros has maintained diplomatic relations with China since 1975.
   

    “The Embassy of the Union of the Comoros in Beijing was estblished in 2011, and as the first ambassador to China, I wish to know more about your university and seek opportunities to carry out effective collaboration,” Ambassador Mohamed said, adding that both sides may start the collaboration with student exchanges.
   

     President Wu and Ambassador Mohamed also discussed issues concerning higher education and scientific research. They shared views on how to put insitutions of higher learning in a better position to provide services to society.
   

    The meeting was also attended by representatives from OUC’s International Office.
