The ceremony was attended by Yang Shuguo, deputy director-general of Shandong Provincial Bureau of Press and Publication, Xu Hang, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of Qingdao Municipal People's Congress, Yin Qingwei, deputy director-general of Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, TV, Film, Press and Publication, Zhou Minshu, deputy director-general of Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Education, as well as OUC president Wu Dexing, and OUC vice-president Li Huajun.

The series consists of six books, i.e. Marine Literature, Marine Art, Marine Folklore, Seafood Story, Ocean Discoveries, and Marine Tourism. These books are suitable for readers from all walks of life and teenagers in particular.

With terse language, vivid pictures and a delightful typographic style, the series is informative, interesting and readable. These books will contribute to the development of marine education in Qingdao, Shandong province and even in China as a whole, said Mr.Yang Shuguo, adding that the publication of the series embodies the wisdom and efforts of the people of OUC.

In his speech, Vice-President Li Huajun said China is endowed with three million square kilometers of territorial waters, and over 18,000 kilometers of coastline, as well as more than 6500 islands, which cover an area of 500 square meters. However, how to protect and properly develop the ocean is still a major task. It is urgent and necessary to enhance national awareness of the ocean and popularize knowledge of marine science and culture among teenagers.

In view of the construction of the Blue Silicon Valley in Qingdao and the strategic plan to build the city into a leading marine economy in China, it is of great importance to step up marine science education and culture in primary and secondary schools in Qingdao, said Mr. Zhou Minshu, adding that this series will be included in the extracurricular reading list for both primary and middle school students in Qingdao.

Compiled by President Wu and his team in May 2011, the series of Enjoying a Trip in the Ocean was honored as a bestseller in China in 2011.It has been included in the list of 100 excellent books recommended for teenagers by the General Administration of Press and Publication of the People's Republic of China in 2012.

At the ceremony, Ocean University of China Press donated the newly-released books to 12 primary and secondary schools in Qingdao, including the Affiliated Middle School to OUC, NO.57 Middle School, NO.23 Middle School and Taiping Road Primary School.
