OUC,UoL Sign Dual Ph.D. Degree Agreement

     Dr. Wu Dexing, president of Ocean University of China (OUC) and Dr. Li Huajun, vice president of OUC met with Sir Howard Newby, vice chancellor of University of Liverpool (UoL) on Yushan campus during his visit to Qingdao on December 3rd, 2011.
 During the meeting, the head of each university signed an agreement for dual collaborative PhD degrees, and both sides discussed the possibilities of expanding cooperation between the two institutions. 点击查看中文版

     In his speech, President Wu welcomed Sir Howard Newby and said that Sir Howard Newby has not only made great achievements in social science research, but has also made contributions to higher education in the UK. President Wu also gave a brief introduction to OUC and its international cooperation in research and education, adding that OUC has already carried out various cooperative programs with UoL especially in bringing in talented personnel from abroad. He also hoped that the two universities would take advantage of the signing and launching of the joint agreement to further the cooperation between the two institutions.

     In his speech, Vice Chancellor Sir Howard Newby expressed his gratitude for OUC's hospitality. He said that he is very pleased that UoL could collaborate with OUC on the dual PhD program,saying the increasing research cooperation between UK and China is conducive to addressing the common issues both sides are facing, such as climate change, sustainable development, sustainability of natural resources, and water resources and food security.

    The dual PhD program is of great significance for students, since they are the backbone of future research. This collaboration will help to reinforce the connections and cooperation between the two institutions, so as to lay a foundation for a higher level partnership,Sir Howard Newby added.

    Presided over by International Office Director Dai Hua,the signing ceremony was also attended by the heads of the Office of the President, the Graduate School, and the College of Engineering.
